Individualism Today vs. Romanticism

This work of art that the guy in the middle is holding up has become the face of the Black Lives Matter movement and a symbol of support for the movement, just like how movements with Woman’s RIghts were during the Romanticism period. This feeds into the “individualism” section on my infographic which talks about how people are looking for equal rights and coming together to have a chance to gain that. Art has been a big part of the black lives matter movement. Signs are hung up and carried around and even worn/presented by people with large followings. People bring different approaches to the signs they make, which all give the same main message. Some people go for the more simple representation, like the man in the picture below, but others go for a catchy saying or something that represents how terrible all of these deaths are. Although there were probably not as many signs designed during the Women's Rights movement, they still had people coming together to fight for a common individual cause. People would come with different backgrounds from different areas and still come together for their common goal. This is also a chance for artists to express their art. People have created beautiful paintings on the sides of buildings that are seen by a lot of people. This is a great way for the artists to get themselves out there while supporting a good cause and something that they are passionate about. It will be interesting to see how this progresses over time.

  1. Hey Sam, I enjoyed reading you blog post about Romanticism and how it relates to today's society and the movements we have. I agree with the image you choose because that is the symbol for black lives matter which the goal is for black people to have equal rights and that relates to the Woman's rights movement that happened many years ago like you mentioned.

  2. Hello Sam, I liked reading your post. I liked how you mentioned one of the best movements in the USA history. You also explain you connection between modern time and the romantic era very well. I like your out look on social movements that have been occurring recently. I like how you are connecting the Women's Rights movement to the Black lives Matters movement because they have similar ideas they are trying to spread.
