This picture is from the first game where the players wore shirts and kneeled to show their support for the BLM movement
Analysis:
In this first work of art is where the origin for my website idea started. Due to the corona virus, the National Basketball Association had to restart the NBA season in Orlando, Florida at Disney world and created the NBA bubble where no one could go in or out to make the environment as safe as possible. Before the start of the NBA restart, the black lives matter movement had come to the forefront due to multiple events of police brutality, but mostly due to the George Floyd situation. The players then came together to help spread a message of what they thought would help make a difference. With everyone still inside or quarantined for the most part, the players knew that there would be a lot of eyes on them and this would be a good time to spread an effective message. The players were then also choose the option to kneel or not kneel during the national anthem which is a very sensitive topic. I chose this work of art because it shows a couple of the faces of the game, Lebron James and Anthony Davis, show their support for a movement on national television where millions of people were watching. This work of art shows how much these guys care about the movement by their facial expression and bowing their head to show their sympathy for the victims that sparked the black lives matter movement. Unfortunately, this form of support did have some backlash as far as viewership. A lot of fans were upset to see that politics were taking over the game and simply looked to basketball as an escape from the constant talk about politics and the corona virus. This lead to the viewership being much less than expected which affected how effective the efforts by the players had become. Despite some negative feedback, the players continued to show their support which we will look at in the next piece of art.
