Who is Sam Swift?

For my first post I think it is important for people to know who I am as a person in order to get the full experience when reading my work. My name is Sam Swift and I am from Arlington, Massachusetts. I chose to attend Wentworth because I want to become an Engineer and I love the city of Boston. Growing up I loved to play sports and try new things. In high school, I played 3 sports and did my best to maintain a good GPA. In my free time I love to hang out with my friends. Me and my friends love going to the beach and playing games outside when the weather is nice out. When the weather is not nice out I like to watch Netflix and play video games. The reason that I wanted to be an engineer and come to Wentworth is because I love to work  “hands-on” and with others. I believe that the best products are made when multiple people collaborate and come together. I am excited for the format of this english class because I think it will help me work on a different set of skills that do not involve math or science. I think that running my own blog will be a great way to express my thoughts and help me carry on the important tools I learn. I also think this blog is a great way for me to practice my organization skills too. Initially I will have trouble formatting the blog the way I would like, but overtime as I figure it out I think that the way I format my blog will represent me just as much as the posts written on it. I also love how with the blog format we are going to be able to see how others decide to approach the idea of a blog. I will then be able to see what tools I like best from what I have found and add it to my blog to keep myself as organized as possible. Although most engineering majors tend to think that english is not an impactful class for them, I believe the complete opposite. In the work world, communication is everything, and the better you are at communicating the better network you have. Engineers are constantly sending emails and have to communicate to each other how to approach a project. I have been able to take a glimpse into the engineering world which made me appreciate how important english is for us to help become a well rounded engineer.

  1. Hi Sam! Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself here. What struck me most was the last thing I came across in this post, the final section of your Avatar Snap on art! I loved seeing a sample of your own drawing and am very impressed with the quality (my talents are limited to stick figures) and detail in your work. It's neat that you enjoy having your own creative outlet and I hope you'll share your perspective as an artist this semester as we dig into some critical analyses of the arts!

  2. Hi Sam, I hear that you are from Arlington. Well that is interesting because I am from Lexington, so there is a bit of rivalry. But that is besides the point, I found that the music you like is similar to my playlist. I enjoy artist like Roddy, and Drake, but I am big fan of artist's word choice, especially J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. Many of the reasons why I came to Wentworth are similar reason to yours, like wanting to be an engineer and the "hands on" teaching, but you are definitely better artist than me.
