The Most Important Aspect of Writing - Feedback
Giving feedback is, in my opinion, the most important aspect of writing. I believe this because your work is constantly measured by how others appreciate and judge it so in that case it is good to see what people liked and did not like. Whenever I would do peer reviews in my previous english classes, I would make sure to try to break down every little mistake of the essay or paper I was reading for my partners benefit. We both knew that I was not trying to be rude or mean in my comments because I am making revisions to help them earn the best grade possible. As stated in "Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback" by Marshall Goldsmith, When I write a big paper, I try to get multiple people to read it before I submit it. One person might pick up something that the previous person, including myself, missed as well. Each reader has a unique background that makes their eye catch different mistakes. I want to make sure that someone who has no idea what I have been studying can still understand what my essay is about and the points that I am trying to make. If someone with no prior knowledge is reading my essay and understands it, that makes it more likely to be a higher quality essay. I also think it is important to not take feedback personally. A majority of the time, people are giving feedback to help and not to be mean. In "The Difference Between Praise and Feedback" by Anya Kamenetz it emphasizes the meaning behind positive and negative feedback and how it should be interpreted. Although it may come off this way occasionally, it is important to take the criticism in a positive way and improve. As stated in "Be a Mirror" by Gravity Goldberg, “Without feedback there can be no transformative change.”
